Stomp Out: Celebrating the History of the Divine 9

As the curtains close on another spectacular Black Art Fest, we find ourselves reflecting on the culmination of this vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and community. The grand finale, Stomp Out, was a testament to the talent and unity that defines the Black community at our university. Sororities and fraternities came together to showcase their artistry, passion, and dedication, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

The energy was palpable as the Zetas, Deltas, Kappas (winning two categories), and Sigmas took to the stage, each bringing their unique style and flair to the performance. But before they graced the stage with their powerful step routines, BSU members showed a breakdown of the historical African roots of stepping and what it means to Historically Black Colleges and Greek Organizations. This helped those not already familiar with stepping to understand what exactly they were about to witness and expand this year’s viewership to include allies of BSU. In doing this, the organizers helped answer the question of how can people outside of the celebrated community attend and give support in a manner that is aware, respectful, and does not move the focus away from Black Bucknellians. This week of Black Arts Fest aims to create and strengthen community, and knowing how to contribute without centering oneself is important.

From intricate step routines to powerful spoken word pieces, the audience was treated to a spectacle that transcended mere entertainment and became a celebration of Black excellence. The Kappas, with their electrifying performance, using both props and acrobatics, left the crowd in awe as they blended precision with the charisma we have come to expect from the fraternity. Their double win was a testament to their hard work and dedication and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity and using skills from each of their brothers. But beyond the Greek organizations Bucknell’s Majorette Dance Team, The Bisonettes came to impress. Stomp Out ended with roaring applause and a sense of unity and solidarity in the name of shared culture and heritage, demonstrating the power of having these events and organizations that focus on representation.
