M.L.K Week Event: Gospel Choir

In the spirit of MLK week, on January 21st, Rooke chapel, Gospel Choir, and
Bucknell religious and spiritual life in collaboration with the griot institute hosted a
wonderful service at the chapel to Commemorate the Life and Legacy of the Rev. Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr.

This wonderful event brought together students, faculty, and
the Lewisburg community as the wonderful Angelo Jones alongside the
Bucknell Choir led the congregation through inspiring songs like “This Little Light of Mine”
and “The Good Old We Shall Overcome.” Each song had intimate history with the Civil Rights
Movement.

There were some great quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King jr, read by
students and faculty. The service was also honored by Dr. Alisha Jones from Cambridge
University who spoke on the power of music and how it was used in the Civil Rights
Movement. She began her sermon with the song “By the River of Babylon.” The chapel
was so quiet as she powerfully sang: “How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange
land?”

It was a successful event that highlighted community and perseverance
through the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
