Bucknell in the Caribbean

Spend your summer this year on the islands of Puerto Rico and Antigua. This Griot Institute study abroad program lasts three weeks from May 14th to June 5th, 2024.

This program offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse culture and rich history of our geographical neighbors. On this trip, students will learn about the languages, literature, histories, and cultures of the Caribbean through field trips, lectures, readings, participation in cultural performances, ethnographic interviews, as well as analytic reflections. Students will explore the cultural and environmental impacts of slavery, colonialism, independence, and tourism.

The information session for the trip was held on September 11, 2023. Students who went on the Summer 2023 Caribbean trip came to the meeting to endorse the program and encourage future student attendance. The faculty leaders for the abroad program include Cymone Fourshey, Director of the Griot Institute and Professor of History and International Relations as well as Rafe Dalleo, Professor of English, English department chair, and Director of literary studies. Another information session will be held on October 20th and additional information about the program such as application, cost, accommodations, and planned excursions, can be found on the Bucknell website for Bucknell in the Caribbean. We hope you will join us!
