I will start by saying bravo to Genesis Butler not just for speaking up, but for choosing to live differently and inviting the rest of us to do the same at such a young age. Her story did not begin with a stage or an audience. It began quietly, at just three years old, with a simple but profound belief: animals are meant to live and be protected. By the age of six, that belief had grown into action for her. While most children were still discovering the world, she was already questioning it and more importantly, challenging it.
When Genesis Butler visited Bucknell University on February 25, 2026, her message centered on advocating for a better world. But what made her words resonate with me was not just what she said; it was where her conviction came from. She shared a defining experience: visiting a slaughterhouse with her mother. For many of us, such a moment might be overwhelming or quickly forgotten, but for Genesis, it became a turning point. It reaffirmed what she had already felt deep within—that protecting animals is inseparable from protecting our planet and our humanity. Her choices reflect that clarity. Genesis does not eat fish or meat; instead, she eats only fruits and vegetables, aligning her lifestyle with her values. In addition to her choice of diet, her advocacy extends far beyond her plate. What began as a personal commitment has grown into a global effort, with her work reaching across the United States, India, and Japan. She is not simply participating in conversations; she is shaping them.
