Hello everyone! Welcome to my end-of-the-semester blog! We’ve made it to winter and it’s about that time for my update. At the beginning of the semester, my website could be seen as incomplete and wouldn’t have been great to show you all. It was based on a “Simple Life” Template, showing the ‘basicness’ of my website at the beginning. Though this was true, it did help establish the foundation of my website. Later on in the semester, I would schedule a meeting with Claire, our WordPress Advisor. Shout out Claire! This led to many new creative ideas being formed and instituted into my site such as a transition to a new theme called “Neve” — which has various types of fonts and creative styles, an inspiration for a new section about globalization, and the transition to a format which I am still getting the hand of. I am so grateful that all this hard work was seen at the Poster Plus Event, where I was able to show the importance of music and resistance. All in all, the website is still a work in progress but I feel it has been greatly improved throughout the semester.

In the spring, my next steps might look like improving my website and incorporating a culture section; this can be something that I could collaborate with my former co-intern, Barbara’s Wankollie, on as her former project goes hand in hand with what I am trying to display to my audience in terms of religion, music, and culture. I have also been given suggestions by professors and the Griot’s Michelle Lauver, such as creating a thesis pertaining the use of music as a vital political and economic tool in the Caribbean. It has also been suggested that I provide audio samples on my website.
In the end, I can’t wait to see where this project takes me and I hope you all can visit my website and not only read but understand the message of music and its power in the Caribbean and in our lives. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Jesse Leon, Class of 2028
