Welcome Back Luncheon

posted on September 15, 2025

On Friday, September 5, the Griot Institute hosted their annual faculty and staff lunch. The lunch purposed to bring together student interns, Griot staff, and Bucknell University faculty in order to discuss programming for the 2025-26 school year. This year, the Griot Institute has adopted the theme “Youth from Africa and the Diasporas: Knowers, Innovators, Visionaries, and Everyday People”. The institute aims to explore the idea of “youth as creators of knowledge” in a 21st century world influenced by technological advancement, global pandemics, and shifting political landscapes. The concept of youth is not limited to today’s young people, but aims to explore the contributions of young people throughout history as examples. As Griot director Dr. Cymone Fourshey referenced several Black historical figures, “They were all young at one point, too”.

Dr. Fourshey highlighted the Griot’s upcoming annual lecture and performance series, which will this year include a discussion panel featuring Bucknell students. In addition to this, the Griot looks forward to welcoming multiple speakers throughout February and March.
