The Black Alumni Association hosted a student appreciation brunch during Homecoming weekend 2024 to show appreciation for graduating seniors, who would soon become black Bucknell alumni themselves.
The event started at 11 a.m., with breakfast available for all attendees. After introductions were made by the president of the Black Alumni Association, a few black seniors who would be graduating in Spring 2025 were called up to the stage to receive acknowledgements. They were also given gifts, courtesy of the Black Alumni Association.
It was an honor to meet the alumni in attendance, as we had people working in various careers, from engineering to education to acting. As a Junior who is not completely sure what to do after graduation, I was inspired by all the different stories I heard during the event. I got the opportunity to speak to Yani Lettman Peyton and her story about entrepreneurship as a founder and director of a language program that teaches children Spanish and Mandarin, called Fun with Foreign Language. She was featured in the Summer 2024 issue of the Bucknell Magazine, and you can read more about her here:https://magazine.bucknell.edu/issue/summer-2024/fluent-futures/.
The event was a wonderful preview into what I myself could be expecting to contribute as a future Bucknell alumna. I look forward to attending again in Fall 2025.
