On February 27th, I attended a very engaging and uplifting vision board workshop with Modest Fashion Designer and Activist Ayana Ife. Ife has been dressing women of all sizes for over 15 years, with aims of empowerment, beauty, and comfort in creative style. Rooted in ancient practices dating back to Egyptian times, vision boards serve as a reminder of the timeless goals one may set for oneself. Initially, this event seemed tailored to individuals with a keen interest in fashion as participants were asked to search through magazines for images representing their goals/passions.
However, as I was drawn into browsing through several selections, I realized that the meaning was rooted deeper. The practice of speaking intentions/aspirations into the universe resulting in good things being directed your way was something that I never felt exposed to. Further, practicing word-of-mouth on the meaning behind my selection of images allowed me to gain a sense of confidence, a uniform feeling among all individuals.
